Bio
Alden Swan believes that a leader’s primary function is to help others succeed, and that often that means “leading from the bottom.” A writer and consultant, he is passionate about helping individuals and organizations work with their strengths to achieve their potential. Alden is known for his creativity and originality, as well as his ability to work with diverse groups of people. His leadership style has been referred to as “non-leadership leadership.”
He has spent over twenty years with Safeco Insurance as a Liability Claims Specialist, earning the unofficial title of the “guru” of Construction Defect Claims. Well-known throughout Southern California for his analytical, mediation and negotiation skills, one judge called him “one of the best adjusters to ever step foot in my courtroom.” At Safeco he developed company-wide training programs in conflict management and was involved in training and mentoring. He is currently a licensed independent adjuster in the state of Oregon.
Alden has also served on the boards and held a number of leadership positions in several churches and non-profit organizations where he continues to be recognized as a uniquely-gifted leader. His involvement has included financial oversight, team leadership, facilitating numerous small groups, and mentoring other leaders.
Alden has recently co-authored the book The Gospel Uncensored with Ken Blue. He writes on topics relating to mediation, conflict management, and leadership at icresolution.com. His personal blog, aldenswan.com, deals mainly with philosophy and theology.

Alden is currently revising a short workshop called Working With Conflict, which is designed for business teams, non-profit / church boards, or other groups with a desire to improve decision-making and communication, avoid needless problems, save time, and improve functionality, productivity and effectiveness. While developed for use with a team, the workshop is also great for individuals who wish to improve their skills in dealing with people and working with conflict.
He is also available for one-on-one or group coaching.
Conflict can be viewed from three perspectives: Before, during, and after. Most people deal with conflict after it has “gone bad” and they find they need assistance. The other approach is to approach conflict before it goes bad. Coaching can be of benefit in all situations, including during a conflict or mediation process, or after something has “blown up.” It is never too late to learn conflict management skills.
